The WIRA Electronic Air Permeameter provides a quick and simple test for Air permeability by measuring the air flow rate through a fabric at a known pressure difference across the specimen. A wide range of fabrics from open to dense can be tested. The instrument incorporates electronic flow and pressure sensors capable of measuring flow rates from 3 millilitres/ minute to 30 litres/minute and pressure upto 200 Pa. Instructions are clearly displayed on the instrument, the operator entering the test parameters via the keyboard. The Vacuum pump, used to generate the air flow through the specimen, is controlled from the main instrument. To carry out a test, the specimen is placed into the test chamber. The Airflow is automatically adjusted until the selected pressure difference across the specimen is measured by the pressure sensor. The airflow rate is then displayed.

WIRA Air Permeameter

The original WIRA Air Permeameter utilises a water manometer tube and four flow meters of different sizes, each with an isolating valve. The principle of operation is the same as with the electronic version, the operator opening the appropriate valve until the required pressure difference across the the specimen is achieved. The flow rate is read directly from the flow tubes.
