Technical Description
The WIRA Fibre Blend Analyser enables quick and accurate analysis to be made of a two component blend of wool and synthetic fibre, using a chemical method as specified in BS 4407.
Description of Equipment
The Fibre Blend Analyser is a self-contained, free-standing instrument. The chemicals and distilled water are fed to the sample chamber automatically via individual peristaltic metering pumps. Complete analysis of a blend of fibres takes approximately 25 minutes.
Test Method
A 1gm sample of fibre is predried and prepared. The wool component is dissolved out of the sample by using a solution of Sodium Hypochlorite. The sample is then flushed with distilled water, followed by
the addition of a dilute Acetic Acid to neutralise the fibre. The remaining synthetic fibre is then washed and dried. The percentage of man-made fibre is calculated from the sample weight before and after testing.
